PERL 5- The Swiss Army Chainsaw
Job Description
Due to an ever increasing number of Perl development opportunities, along with an equally increasing shortage, we decided to write this more generic job advert to summarize the situation and opportunities for skilled Perl developers as well as those interested in become specialists.Whilst Perl reached its 24th Birthday this year, instead of retiring quietly Perl has been going from strength to strength. Perl has often been referred to as the ‘Swiss Army Chainsaw’ of development based on its versatility, and this is not a title it is going to lose anytime soon.
It is no coincidence that demand for Perl is growing in unison with the growth in demand for specialists in Business Intelligence (BI) and Data warehousing (DWH). Perl 5 added features support complex data structures, first-class functions and an object-oriented programming model and is versatile and widely favoured for database applications.
At Zeebra our International client base are increasingly asking for help to find Perl developers for (primarily for Prague and Brno based opportunities). Many of the roles we are currently trying to fill are to work on interesting and often ground breaking BI/DWH projects. The following 3 positions are just a sample of what we are currently looking for:
- Perl Developer – BI Application based on Cloud Computing (Fast growing US/Czech Software Company)
- Perl Developer - Quantative Analytics C++/Perl Developer (Investment Bank)
- Perl Developer – Development Support Tools for Web applications (BI Company)
If you are a skilled Perl developer then we hope this advert will certainly get your interest. However we are here aiming to attract the interest of developers who have Perl experience and knowledge but as yet have not become primarily a Perl Developer. We believe there are many developers who use Perl as a scripting language on ad hoc occasions who have perhaps considered themselves only interested in programming in other languages (C++, Java, C# etc). If this is your profile we would like to ask you to consider becoming a more prominent Perl Developer. Why?:
- The demand for Perl is growing, and doesn’t look like slowing. The shortage of skills here means you will almost immediately increase your value (i.e. your salary) and your job security.
- Perl is becoming ever more versatile, meaning your development abilities and options will increase.
- Perl is becoming an integral part of BI/DWH development which we consider to be a desirable specialization for many.
If you have experience in Perl development we’d like to hear from you. Whether you’d like to apply for a Perl development role or simply enquire further about the possibilities in the current market, please send a latest CV in English to justin@zeebra.cz.
